Who are we?
The Cairns Road logo
The logo is designed to remind us that we are on the move, directed and energised by the wind of God's spirit, and reliant on the centrality of the cross
To quote the song: "Jesus, be our centre ... be the fire in our hearts, be the wind in our sails, be the reason that we live ...
Some of our Principles
We want to see God's kingdom come, in our community, work places and families as well as in the wider world. We recognise the value of relationships with God and with each other, and aim to know the presence of God with us in all that we do.
We believe that all those in relationship with God have particular gifts that are for the benefit of both church and community. We seek to recognise such gifts and encourage each other to grow in them.
Real "ministry" is in the everyday so we try to support each other in the workplace, at home, at college, school etc.
The Structure of Cairns Road Baptist Church
Cairns Road Baptist Church is part of the Baptist Union and we work closely with other Baptist Churches in Bristol and the wider region.
We are committed to the principal that we are all of equal value before God. We aim to hear from God together and discern God's heart for us as a body and for the community around us.
We believe very much in "team" and the way that the church is structured reflects this. In outline, the leadership is as follows:
Eldership
The church has an eldership team. Elders are elected from within the membership and normally serve for a 3 to 5 year term.
The function of the eldership is the general oversight and spiritual leadership of the church.
The existing eldership are:
- Peter Barton, Eiron Bailey, Colin de-Beger, Cherry Dennison, Phillip Goddard, David Myerscough and Helen Paynter.
-
Our church treasurer is Mark Allen
We have "church rules" that provide a framework for the structure of the church. These are reviewed regularly to reflect the way that we develop as a church community.
Wider leadership
The eldership meets regularly with other team leaders that carry out specific tasks within the church, such as those responsible for youth & children's work, finance, mission, Noah's Ark pre-school, home-groups etc. This "wider" team is called the wider leadership team.
Membership
The church has a membership. Members are Christians that are committed to the local fellowship here at Cairns Road. The whole membership meets approximately once a month to pray and share.
Membership is open to any that have a real relationship with God and want to be part of the local church at Cairns Road. For anyone who would like to consider membership, there are regular opportunities to explore this with others.
Administration
The administrator at the church office is Helen Tait. The office is open Monday, Wednesday & Friday mornings 9.30am to 1pm and open all day on a Thursday.

The office telephone number is 0117 9425669, or e-mail
