Church Family

Small groups

Good relationships are foundational to life together as church. We encourage everyone to be part of a Small group or homegroup. These are open to all, and are not limited to church members!

The groups meet to encourage genuine friendship and develop meaningful and honest prayer and support for each person in the group and their families.

Most homegroups meet on Tuesday evenings and share lunch together once a month. There is also a homegroup that meets on Wednesday evenings, and a day-time group that meets every other week on a Wednesday. Once or twice a year most groups also spend a week-end away together or arrange other social events to which friends can be specifically invited.

Women's Bible Study Group

There is a Women's bible study group that meets once a week during the day to study the bible and pray.

The group meet every Wednesday.

Men's Groups

There are men's groups that give an opportunity for men to meet together, socialise, share, pray and support each other.

The groups are small, to encourage genuine relationships.

The groups meet on an evening approximately once a month, to suit each group. They may meet in a home, but more often than not, a mutual venue where there is food available seems to work well!

Environment Group

One of the small groups at Cairns Road focuses on the environment, looking at a Christian response to the environment and Creation care. The group is asking: What does the the Bible say to us? What does it teach about stewardship? What are the Old Testament and New Testament perspectives? and how does it fit with the Gospel?

Youth and Children's Groups

We are committed to encouraging young people to develop a genuine, living relationship with God, and to reach out to their friends.

We have a team that leads the youth and children's work, which includes 2 student youth workers from the Baptist College.

Individual bible study and prayer is very much encouraged. In particular, a "one 2 two" scheme gives young people the opportunity in pairs, to meet with an adult every week or two, read the bible, pray, ask questions and learn to apply their faith to everyday circumstances.

Throughout the year there are events for youth, week-ends away etc. We also encourage our young people to get involved in "mission" both in the UK and abroad, and have various links to make this possible.

On Friday evenings, 7.30 to 9.30 there is a youth cafe for years 7 to 10 called the "Upper Room", providing a chilled space to relax, chat, enjoy a smoothie and participate in indoor sport and activities.
The group for years 11 and 12 meets on Thursday evenings, mainly at the 'Upper Room' but sometimes for an adventure elsewhere!

For younger children, there are various groups at which there is encouragement for all the children to have a real relationship with God. The times together are centred around the bible story, prayer, fun and friendship.

Throughout the year there are also special events and themed parties.

If you would like more information about any of these groups or activities, let us know! You can e-mail one of the youth leaders direct on cairnsroadyouth.hotmail.co.uk. A youth web site is also being developed, but in the meantime, there is a blog site for youth at: www.youngpeopleatcairnsrd.blogspot.com

Cairns Road Baptist Church has a "safe to grow" policy that covers all our work with young people.

Teaching programme

Through the year there is teaching to suit each level of experience and knowledge. On Sunday mornings, the teaching is alternated between examining a book of the Bible and a topical issue relevant to our community and culture.
Other series run on Sunday or weekday evenings along the following lines:

  • Level 1. Getting connected. Subjects include an introduction to the old and new testaments, practical christian living, why do church?, exploring faith etc.
  • Level 2. Intermediate. Looking at individual books of the Bible, christian perspectives on our world and society, other faiths, lifestyle issues etc.
  • Level 3. More advanced. In depth reflection on the Bible and book readings.
For details of planned teaching, consult the church diary, or contact us direct.
