Church Family

Sunday morning

Music, Word and Worship every Sunday morning at 10.30am.

If you are thinking about coming along for the first time - welcome!

If you are new to Cairns Road and would like to find out more information, please do speak with one of the leaders on a Sunday morning. In addition, we run informal 'teas' at frequent intervals throughout the year for people who would like to find out more about the church and what makes it tick. These 'teas' are a chance to meet others who are thinking of joining the life of the church; and are for people if they are just looking or if they know that they want to become involved. Call the church office to find out when the next meeting will be.

Missed a sermon? Why not go to our resources section of our website and download our Sunday notice sheet and download a podcast of the sermon from the audio files section.

Small groups

Good relationships are foundational to life together as church. We encourage everyone to be part of a Small group or homegroup. These are open to all, and are not limited to church members!

The groups meet to encourage genuine friendship and develop meaningful and honest prayer and support for each person in the group and their families.

Most homegroups meet on Tuesday evenings and share lunch together once a month. There is also a homegroup that meets on Wednesday evenings, and a day-time group that meets every other week on a Wednesday. Once or twice a year most groups also spend a week-end away together or arrange other social events to which friends can be specifically invited.

Women's Bible Study Group

There is a Women's bible study group that meets once a week during the day to study the bible and pray.

The group meet every Wednesday.

Men's Groups

There are men's groups that give an opportunity for men to meet together, socialise, share, pray and support each other.

The groups are small, to encourage genuine relationships.

The groups meet on an evening approximately once a month, to suit each group. They may meet in a home, but more often than not, a mutual venue where there is food available seems to work well!

Environment Group

One of the small groups at Cairns Road focuses on the environment, looking at a Christian response to the environment and Creation care. The group is asking: What does the the Bible say to us? What does it teach about stewardship? What are the Old Testament and New Testament perspectives? and how does it fit with the Gospel?

Thursday evenings: For school years 10/11 - 13, 7.30pm - 9.30pm.

Friday evenings: For school years 7 - 9/10, 7.30pm - 9.30pm.

The "Upper Room" provides a chilled space to relax, chat, enjoy a smoothie and participate in indoor sport (including pool and ice hockey tables) and many other activities. Come and play Xbox and watch the latest DVD releases.
The youth clubs also enjoy adventures outside the Upper Room and there are many special events and weekends away. We also encourage our young people to get involved with "mission" both in the UK and abroad, and have various links to make this possible.

A "one 2 two" scheme gives young people the opportunity in pairs, to meet with an adult every week or two, read the bible, pray, ask questions and learn to apply their faith to everyday circumstances.

Childrens groups

For younger children, there are various groups and activities which encourage children to have a real relationship with God. The times together are centred around the bible story, prayer, fun and friendship.

Why not come along to the following afterschool clubs?:
Mondays Cooking Club. Running once a term. An opportunity to get messy, have fun with food whilst looking at the feast and festivals that mark the important signposts of the Christian faith.

Sunday mornings
We run the following chidren's groups:
Creche - for children aged 0 to 3 years.
Mini heroes - looking at Temple Stories. For children aged 3 to 5 years.
Smarteez - looking at Kings & Rulers. For children aged 5 to 8 years.
Miracle Stars - looking at Upside Down Kingdom. For children aged 8 to 11 years.
We run youth activities for the older children.

Cairns Road Baptist Church has a "safe to grow" policy that covers all our work with young people.

Teaching programme

Through the year there is teaching to suit each level of experience and knowledge. On Sunday mornings, the teaching is alternated between examining a book of the Bible and a topical issue relevant to our community and culture.
Other series run on Sunday or weekday evenings along the following lines:

  • Level 1. Getting connected. Subjects include an introduction to the old and new testaments, practical christian living, why do church?, exploring faith etc.
  • Level 2. Intermediate. Looking at individual books of the Bible, christian perspectives on our world and society, other faiths, lifestyle issues etc.
  • Level 3. More advanced. In depth reflection on the Bible and book readings.
